About the Grind

A reflective glimpse into my journey, values, and interpretations on grief, survival and identity after loss.

Hi,

My name is Ashley.

I love an evening walk on the beach.

My morning cup of coffee.
A slow burn.
And a good old fashioned power struggle.

Being in my world, is like free diving. We are going meters down, there is something that beckons to me from the bottom of the ocean. It’s exhilarating, it’s physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting.

And the journey back to the surface? It’s calculated. You might get the bends. But I find that all the self discovery comes from swimming back up.

You don’t get to go 30 meters down, and pretend nothing happened.

A top-down view of a cozy weekend ritual scene centered on a simple white ceramic coffee mug filled with frothy cappuccino, a delicate heart-shaped foam art floating on top. The mug sits on a slightly rumpled oatmeal-colored knit blanket spread across a soft gray couch. Beside it lies a well-worn paperback book facedown, a bookmark peeking out, and a small wooden tray holding a lit soy candle in amber glass. Diffused overcast light from a nearby window creates a calm, even illumination with soft shadows and no harsh contrasts. Photographic realism with a gentle, muted color palette sets a slow, introspective mood, capturing the reflective side of life's journey and comforting coffee breaks.

My Honest Start

I didn’t start writing because I had everything figured out. Quite the opposite.

I started because life got so complicated, I simply needed a space to put the questions and reflections that were burning inside of me.

Survival. Identity. Compounded loss. Relationships. The uncomfortable spaces in between who we are, who we become, and how we relate to the world around us.

Growth&Grinds is my attempt to sit with and make sense of what doesn’t logically make sense – To give words to things many of us experience but don’t know how to articulate and provide frameworks for pain to flow into.
